Travels Together - One Year On

A whole year ago, Rich and I departed from the UK on a one way flight to start the biggest adventure yet - moving indefinitely to Australia; but not before two months travelling first! We both figured we couldn't fly all the way to Australia and not stop off anywhere on the way, so of course we made an adventure out of it. To mark the anniversary of us leaving the UK to go travelling, I thought I'd post some of our most memorable moments of our wonderful two months in Asia.

We flew from London to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, where we would be spending the next two weeks. We headed straight to the beach town of Negombo where we relaxed and enjoyed some much needed beach time.

We then travelled to Sigiriya, further north in Sri Lanka and stayed with locals in a homestay, where they made us feel very welcome and cooked us some seriously amazing food. Rich's beard had already started to become unruly!

We climbed Pidurangala Rock to see the sunrise.

We travelled on amazing train journeys, through absolutely incredible landscapes through the hill country.

I was in my element as we drank cup after cup of proper Ceylon tea.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country.

We were missing the beach, so we travelled to the south coast for some sun, sea and sand. The beach town of Mirissa was by far our favourite place in Sri Lanka.

We just can't get enough of the beach!

We finished our time in Sri Lanka in Galle and headed back to Colombo for our flight to Myanmar.

Myanmar was just out of this world amazing!

We began in Yangon where we did SO much walking and went to some iconic sites.

We experienced a lot of hilarious and long overnight bus journeys.

But they were worth it when we eventually got to our destinations.

As you can see, Rich's beard took on a new level of wild!

What a surprise, our favourite place in Myanmar was Ngapali Beach - are you seeing a theme arising?!

It was just so beautiful, idyllic and felt like we were a million miles away from anyone.

Rich's cousin was getting married in Taiwan, so we thought we might go too. It was pretty amazing to witness a traditional Taiwanese wedding ceremony. We of course, took part in some Karaoke to end the day!

Wouldn't be a wedding without it, right?

The newlyweds had organised a road trip around Taiwan for the family. Rich's aunt, uncle, cousin and his new wife allowed us to be a part of their tour around the island.

We packed SO much in and toured the whole island in one week!

We were absolutely exhausted but were super excited for the Philippines; Rich's favourite country!

We were both in our element when it came to island hopping the most beautiful beaches in the world, motorbike rides, scuba diving, snorkelling, waterfalls, whale sharks, sunsets...

It's true when they say it's more in the Philippines - it's now my favourite country too.

It was just incredible! The people were so amazingly friendly.

We had the best time imaginable.

Take me back?

We were very sad to leave the Philippines, but super excited to get to Bali to meet my sister who was flying out to meet us.

She was bursting with excitement!

We had an amazing time together in Bali and Gili Trawangan, soaking up the rays, chilling on the beach and drinking out of coconuts.

After an amazing time in Bali and Gili T, we parted ways with my sister, who headed back to the UK and we were ready to start our biggest adventure yet; moving to Australia. It had been an incredible couple of months, making amazing memories in so many wonderful places but we were just very excited to get to Perth just in time for Christmas and summer. We had had the best time imaginable on our adventures and we saw and did so much. We created memories to be cherished forever.

There really is nothing better than travelling the world with your best friend and partner in crime.

Now... where to next?
